Your details, in plain English
Studio Scardthomas is run by me, Alastair Scardthomas. I'm responsible for any personal details you share here. Questions or requests: ali_scardthomas@icloud.com.
What I collect
- When you get in touch (a form, the chat with Bit, or email): your name, email address and what you tell me about your project.
- When you visit the studio site: which pages you view and what you click, through PostHog, so I can see what works. Without your OK this uses no cookies and is not linked to you between visits.
- Only if you click Accept on the cookie banner: Google Analytics, plus PostHog cookies that recognise a returning visitor. Decline and neither is used.
- The service pages (like this one) use no analytics or cookies at all. Their fonts come from Google Fonts (see below).
Why I use it
- To reply to your enquiry and give you a quote. That is the only reason I use your contact details.
- If we work together, to deliver the project and keep the records the law requires.
- Visit statistics, to improve the site.
- I never sell your details, and I never add you to a mailing list.
Who handles it for me
- Netlify: hosts the site and receives form messages.
- Google and Apple: my email (Gmail and iCloud Mail) and, only if you accept, Google Analytics.
- PostHog (EU servers): site statistics.
- Google Fonts: supplies the fonts on every page. When a page loads, your browser fetches them from Google, so Google receives your IP address and browser details. It sets no cookies.
- Some of these companies store data outside the UK. They do so under the safeguards UK data protection law requires.
How long I keep it
- Enquiries that don’t turn into a project: deleted within 12 months.
- Client records: kept for 6 years after the work ends, because tax law requires it.
- Site statistics: kept in PostHog and Google Analytics for no more than 14 months.
If I’ve emailed you
I sometimes email businesses whose work I like, to ask if they need a website or software. I only use the business email address published on your own website, and I note that I’ve contacted you so I don’t email twice. Reply “no thanks” and I’ll never email you again. I keep your name on a do-not-contact list so it stays that way.
Your rights
Cookies: change your choice any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of this page. Decline also stops the anonymous visit counts.
You can ask to see the details I hold about you, have them corrected or deleted, or ask me to stop using them. Just email ali_scardthomas@icloud.com and I’ll reply within a month. If you’re unhappy with how I’ve handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
