Helix Tower Substructure

A basement for a new tower, dug beside occupied buildings, with ground movement read every day.

What we built

A secant piled wall round the site, then the basement dig inside it, then a raft foundation for the tower.

The hard part

Neighbours stayed in their buildings the whole time. Their walls could not move.

How we did it

Monitoring points on the next-door buildings were read every day. If a reading moved, the dig stopped until the engineer said go.
